I am sorry to say this. But everything is!! We as Indians are to be blamed for the sorry state of affairs of our nation. It's time to take collective responsibility for all our deeds! Let's take a moment to reflect…
Come next year - 15th August, and India will celebrate its 75th independence day and also its 190th year of the end of British rule. So, what have we done so far to be proud of? Well, the answer is "not much". Ever since the day the British bid adieu to the Indian soil as masters, how many of us honestly, at some point or the other, wished we were better off under their rule? For which I would like to answer in your behalf, almost all of us - right?
Right from birth to the time we reach our deathbed, we are reminded of what our caste is. Caste system plays a detrimental role in our society - sadly even today.
I tell people - proudly, that I have spent some of the best days of my youth in Mumbai. Not because I have had a great experience living there but because I managed to survive there despite the filth and reckless ways. There is a oft repeated saying that goes - "If you can live in Mumbai, you can live anywhere in the world because the learning experience makes you tougher and stronger with the knowledge that no place is more worse!!"
Now why am I sharing this with you? Because, this should give you a glimpse of the total disregard we pay to cleanliness and civil behaviour in public.
Delhi and Mumbai are one of the most polluted places in the world. This is because of the carelessness that our entire generation has witnessed until now. How many of us practice discipline in keeping our surroundings pollution free? As much as we hate to admit, we tend to overlook this basic principle and hope all others are doing there bit and if one of them default - it does not matter.
India is a country that needs to mature up when it comes to treating its women. Women are treated with scant respect at home and in the open too. Women continue to suffer in silent humiliation bearing all the verbal and mental abuse to say the least.
